Journey to excellence:

The Sunday Times 100 Best Small Companies to work for 2019 and 2020

Building on our outstanding achievement in 2016 of becoming an Investor in People Gold organisation and then winning the Global Award for Best Gold Investor in People Employer in 2017, the natural progression for Brightstar was to embark on the quest to make the highly coveted ‘Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to work for’ list and to achieve the Best Companies Quality Star Mark. For Brightstar, achieving this status would be the absolute confirmation that our people are genuinely at the heart of everything that we do and that Brightstar is a fantastic place to work.

This aim was fulfilled in December 2018 when we learned that we had received the Three Star Best Companies accreditation; the highest quality mark possible, being praised for our ‘extraordinary’ levels of workplace engagement in the national survey that celebrates and showcases the very best in workplace engagement. Shortly after receiving this fabulous news, the team was then notified that our phenomenal score had placed us very firmly in the ‘Top 100’ list. In February we then received the confirmation that we had in fact secured first place in this list; an outstanding achievement, especially given the fact that this was our first opportunity to be eligible to make the Sunday Times list.

Gaining the accreditation and the ‘Top 100’ placing sets us above our peers and also epitomises our Brightstar value of ‘we love what we do’. Crucially, it is our people whom have stated very clearly that Brightstar is a fantastic place to work and it is they whom have gone to extraordinary lengths to explain why this is the case.

Founded in 2011, Brightstar has always been a people-centric organisation and from day 1, we had a people development programme and culture in place. We were an early adopter of the Women in Finance Charter and we have been a trailblazer and ambassador for this campaign ever since. Brightstar has been a pioneer in championing and raising awareness about employee wellbeing and mental health issues. In 2017 the business opened a Wellbeing Room to provide our team with a dedicated space to relax and unwind as part of our Mental Health Action Plan. Brightstar was also named ‘Equality Employer of the Year’ in 2018 and is a Living Wage Employer.

In summary, we have created a working environment and business culture where there is a strong sense of belonging and where our people feel cared for, motivated and rewarded for their contribution and achievement. Because of this engagement, our team work tirelessly together to make Brightstar the very best at what we do, which of course is fantastic news for everyone who works with us.
